Do you take insurance?

Yes and no. Many changes have taken place in the health insurance industry in recent years. Unfortunately, some managed care organizations (MCOs) have resorted to unscrupulous practices that disrupt treatment and/or delay or avoid paying claims. When a MCO has established with me that they are reliable and trustworthy, I will happily accept only your portion of the charges not payable by them. Please check with me to determine whether your MCO has rated favorably in doing business with me. I do not subsidize the cost of your care by accepting reduced fees, nor do I offer a sliding fee scale or payment plans. With reliable MCOs, I accept out-of-network benefit coverage. Medicare and secondary Medicaid payments are accepted, as are cash, check, Visa, and MasterCard.

Procedures and services once covered in full are now partially covered, covered only under certain circumstances, or in some cases not covered at all. If you plan to ask your MCO to help pay for your visits, be sure to check your coverage before coming to your first appointment . Plans vary widely, and some will not cover visits they have not authorized. To avoid disappointment, be sure you fully understand your limitations of coverage, including any deductible amount, co-insurance, or other balance left uncovered by your MCO (see below).

Please feel free to call with any questions you might have. Addressing these promptly ensures that we can concentrate on the most important matter--getting you better!

(A managed care company is an independent, for-profit business that has been hired by an insurer to handle mental health benefits. The MCO will often have a different name than what your insurance card may indicate. If your card lists a set amount for you to pay for office visits, this generally pertains only to medical coverage, not mental health coverage.)
